Location Frangokastello

Frangokastello is a small seaside touristic village at south coast of Chania, about 12km east of Sfakia and 80km southeast of Chania town, in a small valley south of the White Mountains in Crete.

Area is known and named after Frangokastello medieval castle built by the Venetians in the period 1371-1374 then rulers of the island of Crete, in order to protect the area from pirates and the often rebellious Sfakians.

Frangokastello is famous for its sandy beach, for the Venetian castle and the legendary ghosts of Drosoulites.

The sandy Frangokastelo beach is quite large and magnificent, with sand and turquoise sea water, ideal for children. It's well organized and is very popular in summer months of July and August.
